If you have been thinking about starting how to write, then you know how difficult it can be to come up with a topic. You may be a good writer, but when it comes to putting thoughts down in prose, even the best among us can find things a little challenging. The fact that you cannot narrow down on one topic does not mean that you should give up on your dream of becoming a writer.
FINDING THE RIGHT TOPIC
- Write about your life; your life is unique. The events you have gone through are not similar to what other people have experienced. That is what makes personal life stories interesting. Everyone has a story, and if you express yourself in raw form, telling your truth, you can be sure that people will be interested in reading it.
- Find inspiration from other authors; read a book by your favourite author and mark what makes the book stand out. Is it the way the story has been told, the theme, or the stylistic devices used? Finding inspiration does not mean copying. It just means learning from the person you admire and finding your way around it.
- Travel; going away from home opens your eyes to a world you are not familiar with and gives you moments to do some self-reflection. Some of the top authors admit that they found the topics they are writing about when they went far away and connected with their thoughts. There are institutions which give fellowships to authors who want to find a secluded place to write.
The most important tip to finding the right topic to write about is to listen to your inner voice and just start. You can have a journal where you have different story ideas. Develop them every day and see the one which takes shape.
